The Deen of Islam is encompassed by three:
1. At Tawheed
2. Al Shari'ah (known as Al Khilafah)
3. Al Jihaad
2. Al Shari'ah (known as Al Khilafah)
3. Al Jihaad
Muslims do not consider Islam to be something secondary in our lives, rather we believe it to be central to all of our actions and beliefs, Abdullah Ibn Abbas (ra) said:
"The Deen is what you believe in (Tawheed), act upon (Shari'ah) and die for (Jihad)"
So Tawheed is essential, but what is Al Tawheed and how do we prevent ourselves from falling into shirk?
AT-TAWHEED
Al Tawheed is to worship Allah (swt) exclusively. However Allah is not something that we can define ourselves, Allah (swt) has certain attributes, and we must attribute them to him exclusively, we do not know anything about Allah (swt) more than he has informed us about Himself.
AL SHART AL TAWHEED
The Conditions of Tawheed
There are 8 conditions of Tawheed, without them our Tawheed is incomplete and void:
1- AL ILM - Knowledge about the Kalimah
2- AL YAQEEN - Certainty
3- AL QUBOUL - Acceptance
4- AL INQIYAAD - Submission
5- AL SIDEQ - Belief
6- AL IKHLAAS - Sincerity
7- AL MAHABBAH - Love
8. AT-TAKFEER - To declare kufr in Taghout
2- AL YAQEEN - Certainty
3- AL QUBOUL - Acceptance
4- AL INQIYAAD - Submission
5- AL SIDEQ - Belief
6- AL IKHLAAS - Sincerity
7- AL MAHABBAH - Love
8. AT-TAKFEER - To declare kufr in Taghout
1- AL ILM (Knowledge)
You cannot worship Allah (swt) exclusively if you do not know his attributes. If you do not know his attributes; you will become Mushrik knowingly or unknowingly.
Allah (swt) said: "So know that Laa ilaha illAllah, and ask forgiveness for your sin, and also for (the sin of) believing men and believing women. And Allah knows well your moving about, and your place of rest." [Muhammad (47): 19]
We cannot accept someone to have Tawheed if he does not have knowledge of Allah (swt).
The Prophet (saw) said:
"Whosoever dies with the knowledge of "Laa ilaha illa Allah" is in Jannah" [Muslim]
"Whosoever dies with the knowledge of "Laa ilaha illa Allah" is in Jannah" [Muslim]
You cannot negate all gods and accept "Allah" alone if you do not know what "Allah" is.
Allah (swt) said:
"This (Qur'an) is a message for mankind, in order that they may be warned thereby, and that they may know that he is the only one ilaah - and that men of understanding may take heed." [Ibrahim (14): 52]
"This (Qur'an) is a message for mankind, in order that they may be warned thereby, and that they may know that he is the only one ilaah - and that men of understanding may take heed." [Ibrahim (14): 52]
Allah (swt) said:
"And those whom they invoke instead of him have no power of intercession - except for those who bear witness to the truth knowingly, and they know (about tawheed)." [Zukhruf (43): 86]
"And those whom they invoke instead of him have no power of intercession - except for those who bear witness to the truth knowingly, and they know (about tawheed)." [Zukhruf (43): 86]
So Knowledge about the kalima, laa ilaha illallah is essential.
2- AL YAQEEN (Certainty)
After you establish knowledge, you must have certainty, and believe in the kalima with certainty.
Allah (swt) said:
"The believers are those who believe in Allah (swt) and his Messenger (saw) and after that they have no uncertainty, and fights with their wealth and their bodies in the way of Allah (swt)" [Hujurat (49): 15]
"The believers are those who believe in Allah (swt) and his Messenger (saw) and after that they have no uncertainty, and fights with their wealth and their bodies in the way of Allah (swt)" [Hujurat (49): 15]
The Prophet (saw) said:
"Whoever said "ash hadu an Laa ilaha illa Allah wa ashadu anni rasulullah" and no servant when he meets Allah then (on the day of judgement) with certainty, he will enter Jannah" [Muslim]
"Whoever said "ash hadu an Laa ilaha illa Allah wa ashadu anni rasulullah" and no servant when he meets Allah then (on the day of judgement) with certainty, he will enter Jannah" [Muslim]
3- AL QUBOUL (Acceptance)
You must then accept it completely and verbally, you must declare the shahadah, a non-Muslim cannot become Muslim before making this declaration even if he believes with certainty in Islam.
Allah (swt) said:
"And whenever we used to say to them, there is only one god, and they used to know with certainty but they used to have takabbur (Arrogance) and reject it" [37: 35]
"And whenever we used to say to them, there is only one god, and they used to know with certainty but they used to have takabbur (Arrogance) and reject it" [37: 35]
4- AL INQIYAAD (Submission)
You must submit to Allah's names and attribute exclusively in your sayings and your actions
Allah (swt) said:
"By your lord, they are not believers until they refer to you (Muhammad (saw)) in all of their affairs, then they should not find any disagreement therein, and they must submit fully." [4: 65]
"By your lord, they are not believers until they refer to you (Muhammad (saw)) in all of their affairs, then they should not find any disagreement therein, and they must submit fully." [4: 65]
Allah (swt) said:
"There is no compulsion in the deen, the right path has become distinct from the wrong path, whoever rejects taghout, and believes in Allah, he has got a firm hold of the most trustworthy handhold that will never break, and Allah is the All hearing, all knowing." [2: 256]
"There is no compulsion in the deen, the right path has become distinct from the wrong path, whoever rejects taghout, and believes in Allah, he has got a firm hold of the most trustworthy handhold that will never break, and Allah is the All hearing, all knowing." [2: 256]
Allah (swt) said:
"Verily, the rule is for none but Allah" [12: 40]
"Verily, the rule is for none but Allah" [12: 40]
5- AL SIDEQ (Belief)
Belief/Conviction in the heart.
You must accept it completely and verbally, ...
And then you must submit to Allah's names and attribute exclusively in your sayings and your actions ...
And then have Conviction in the heart.
And then you must submit to Allah's names and attribute exclusively in your sayings and your actions ...
And then have Conviction in the heart.
The Prophet (saw) said:
"Whosoever says "Laa ilaha illa Allah Muhammadun rasulullah" and believes in it will enter paradise" [Musnad Imam Ahmad]
"Whosoever says "Laa ilaha illa Allah Muhammadun rasulullah" and believes in it will enter paradise" [Musnad Imam Ahmad]
The Prophet (saw) said:
"Anybody who testifies that "Laa ilaha illa Allah wa Muhammadun rasulullah", believing it in his heart, Allah will forbid hellfire from him" [Bukhari & Muslim]

Allah (swt) said:
"When the hypocrites come to you, they say "We testify that you are the Messenger of Allah" and Allah testifies that you are indeed the Messenger, But Allah (swt) testifies that they are liars indeed." [Munafiqun (63): 1]

"And from mankind are some who say: we believe in Allah and the last day" while in fact they believe not" [2: 8]
"And from mankind are some who say: we believe in Allah and the last day" while in fact they believe not" [2: 8]
Allah (swt) said:
"So if they believe as you believe they are indeed on the right path; but if they turn back it is they who are in opposition; but Allah will suffice thee as against them and He is the All-Hearing the All- Knowing." [2: 137]
"So if they believe as you believe they are indeed on the right path; but if they turn back it is they who are in opposition; but Allah will suffice thee as against them and He is the All-Hearing the All- Knowing." [2: 137]
6- AL IKHLAAS (Sincerity)
Allah (swt) said:
"And they have been order to submit to Tawheed, sincerely for Allah (swt) …" [Bayyinah: 5]
"And they have been order to submit to Tawheed, sincerely for Allah (swt) …" [Bayyinah: 5]
The Prophet (saw) said:
"Whosoever says "Laa ilaha illa Allah Muhammadun rasulullah" … Allah has forbid upon him the hellfire, whoever seeks sincerely for the sake of Allah"
"Whosoever says "Laa ilaha illa Allah Muhammadun rasulullah" … Allah has forbid upon him the hellfire, whoever seeks sincerely for the sake of Allah"
The Prophet (saw) said:
"The most happy people on the day of judgement, who will enjoy my intercession, will be the one who says "Laa ilaha illa Allah Muhammadun rasulullah" sincerely from his heart." [Bukhari]
"The most happy people on the day of judgement, who will enjoy my intercession, will be the one who says "Laa ilaha illa Allah Muhammadun rasulullah" sincerely from his heart." [Bukhari]
7- AL MAHABBAH (Love)
Allah (swt) said:
"Some people will take instead of Allah, any equivalent. They love them like they love Allah, but the believers they love Allah most. If only those who do wrong could see the torment, that all power belongs to Allah (swt) and that Allah is severe in punishment" [2: 165]
"Some people will take instead of Allah, any equivalent. They love them like they love Allah, but the believers they love Allah most. If only those who do wrong could see the torment, that all power belongs to Allah (swt) and that Allah is severe in punishment" [2: 165]
The Prophet (saw) said:
"The most powerful knot of imaan is to love for the sake of Allah (swt) and to hate for the sake of Allah (swt) …" [Bukhari]
"The most powerful knot of imaan is to love for the sake of Allah (swt) and to hate for the sake of Allah (swt) …" [Bukhari]
Allah (swt) said:
"Allah does not forbid you to deal justly and give them their rights (not "kindly") with those who fought not against you on account of your religion nor drove you out of your homes. Verily Allah loves those who deal with equity and justice. It is only those who fight against you on account of your religion and have driven you out of your homes, and helped to drive you out, that Allah forbids you to befriend them. And whosoever will befriend them, then such are the zalimun." [Mumtahanah (60): 8-9]

It is shirk to love anybody WITH Allah (swt). We must love Allah Exclusively.
8. AT-TAKFEER

ARKAAN AT-TAWHEED
The Pillars of Tawheed
There are 2 pillars of Tawheed,
1. AL KUFR BIL TAGHOUT (Rejection of Taghout)
2. AL EMAAN BILLAH (Belief in Allah)
2. AL EMAAN BILLAH (Belief in Allah)
1. AL KUFR BIL TAGHOUT Rejection of Taghout
WHAT IS TAGHOUT?
Allah (swt) said:
"There is no compulsion in the deen, the right path has become distinct from the wrong path, whoever rejects taghout, and believes in Allah, he has got a firm hold of the most trustworthy handhold that will never break, and Allah is the All hearing, all knowing." [2: 256]

- The right path being distinct is the Prophet (saw) coming
- The most trustworthy handhold is Imaan
- The most trustworthy handhold is Imaan
[Tafseer of: ibn Mas'oud, ibn Abbas and Imam Ali]
Taghout is-
"Anything that has been worshipped or obeyed or followed or submitted to instead of Allah (swt)"
"Anything that has been worshipped or obeyed or followed or submitted to instead of Allah (swt)"
Taghout could be:
- A person male or female etc e.g. a king (Tony Blair, George Bush) or a Prophet.
- Jinn
- Shaytaan
- Rocks
- Stones
- Idols
- Law and order/Ideas
- Trees and crops
- Animal
- Doctor
- Objects
- Anything else that is worshipped instead of Allah (swt)

- Idols

- Anything else that is worshipped instead of Allah (swt)
THE HEADS OF TAGHOUT
The Heads of Taghout are 5:
1- SHAYTAAN WHO CALLS YOU TO OBEY, WORSHIP OR FOLLOW DIFFERENT FROM ALLAH.
(Can be Iblees, Jinn or Man); Allah (swt) said:
"Did I not command you O children of Adam? That you should not worship shaitan, verily he is a plain enemy to you. And that you should worship me alone, that is the straight path. And indeed he did lead astray a great multitude of you, did you not, then understand?" [Ya sin (36): 60- 62]

2- THE RULER WHO REPLACES THE SHARI'AH WITH ANYTHING ELSE.
Allah (swt) said:
"Have you seen those who claim to believe in what was sent to you and sent down before you? And they wish to go to judgement in their disputes (At Tahakum) to the Taghout while they have been ordered to reject them, but Shaytan wishes to lead them far astray." [Nisaa (4): 60]
"Have you seen those who claim to believe in what was sent to you and sent down before you? And they wish to go to judgement in their disputes (At Tahakum) to the Taghout while they have been ordered to reject them, but Shaytan wishes to lead them far astray." [Nisaa (4): 60]
3- WHOSOEVER JUDGES DIFFERENT FROM WHAT ALLAH REVEALED.
Allah (swt) said:
"Whosoever Judges by other than what Allah revealed is AL KAFIRUN" [Ma'idah (5): 44]
"Whosoever Judges by other than what Allah revealed is AL KAFIRUN" [Ma'idah (5): 44]
The meaning here is the judge or the ruler or any similar. Also any person who rules/judges by other than what is revealed even in his own home is kafir.
4- ANYONE WHO CLAIMS THAT HE KNOWS THE GHAIB INSTEAD OF WHAT ALLAH (SWT) HAS INFORMED US.
Allah (swt) said:
"(Allah) is the all knower of the Ghaib, and he (Allah) does not reveal to anybody, the ghaib." [Jinn (72): 26]
"(Allah) is the all knower of the Ghaib, and he (Allah) does not reveal to anybody, the ghaib." [Jinn (72): 26]
Allah (swt) said:
"And with him (Allah (swt))are the keys of the Ghaib. None knows it but he, and he knows whatever is in land and the sea; not a leaf falls but he knows it, there is not a grain in the darkness of the earth nor anything fresh or dry, but is written in a clear record." [An'am (6): 59]
5- THE ONE WHO HAS BEEN WORSHIPPED INSTEAD OF ALLAH AND HE CONSENTS TO BE WORSHIPPED.
Allah (swt) said:
"And the one who claims "I am god" we will reward him with hellfire this is how we reward the oppressors." [Anbiyah: 29]
"And the one who claims "I am god" we will reward him with hellfire this is how we reward the oppressors." [Anbiyah: 29]
[Kitaab ut Tawheed: Sheikh Muhammad ibn Abdul Wahhab]
CONDITIONS OF KUFR BIL TAGHOUTConditions of Rejecting Taghout
There are 5 conditions of Kufr bit Taghout:
1- To believe it is Batil
2- To keep distance from Taghout
3- To Declare animosity towards Taghout
4- To Hate Taghout
5- To declare Takfeer on Taghout
2- To keep distance from Taghout
3- To Declare animosity towards Taghout
4- To Hate Taghout
5- To declare Takfeer on Taghout
1. TO BELIEVE IT IS BATIL.
The way you declare kufr in Taghout is to first to believe that it (taghout) is falsehood
Allah (swt) said:
"That is because Allah - he is the truth, and what they invoke besides him, it is Batil. And verily, Allah - he is the most high, the most great." [Hajj (22); 62]
"That is because Allah - he is the truth, and what they invoke besides him, it is Batil. And verily, Allah - he is the most high, the most great." [Hajj (22); 62]
2. TO KEEP DISTANCE FROM TAGHOUT.Ijtinaab ut Taghout
It is essential that we distance ourselves from All Taghout,
Allah (swt) said:
"And verily we have sent among every Ummah a Messenger (proclaiming): "Worship Allah (alone), and keep distance from Taghout." Then of them were some whom Allah guided and of them were some upon whom the straying was justified. So travel through the land and see what was the end of those who denied." [Nahl: 36]
Allah (swt) said:
"… So shun the abomination of idols (Taghout), and shun lying speech." [Hajj: 30]
"… So shun the abomination of idols (Taghout), and shun lying speech." [Hajj: 30]
3. DECLARING ANIMOSITY TOWARDS TAGHOUT.Al 'Adaawa lil Taghout
You Must Hate Taghout and declare WAR on Taghout,
Allah (swt) informed us about Ibrahim (as):
"Indeed there has been an excellent example for you in Ibrahim and those with him, when they said to their people: "Verily, we are free from you and whatever you worship besides Allah: we have rejected you, and there has started between us and you hostility and hatred forever until you believe in Allah alone." …" [Mumtahanah (60): 4]
4. HATRED
Al Bughodh
Al Bughodh
There is no way for a believer to believe in Allah (swt) and love Allah (swt), and also love the shaytan, or any other taghout. but rather we must hate those who hate Allah (swt), and we must hate all Taghout.
Allah (swt) said:
"Indeed there has been an excellent example for you in Ibrahim and those with him, when they said to their people: "Verily, we are free from you and whatever you worship besides Allah: we have rejected you, and there has started between us and you hostility and hatred forever until you believe in Allah alone." …" [60: 4]
Allah (swt) said:
"He said: "Do you see now that which you worship, you and your fathers before you? For they are enemies to me except the Lord of the Worlds" [26: 75-77]
"He said: "Do you see now that which you worship, you and your fathers before you? For they are enemies to me except the Lord of the Worlds" [26: 75-77]
5. DECLARE TAKFEER ON TAGHOUT
Takfeer Al Taghout
Takfeer Al Taghout
It is impossible for someone to insist that any Taghout is Muslim, we cannot disbelieve in Shaytan, distancing ourselves from him, hating him, declaring animosity on him, and then insist that he is Muslim, rather we must make takfeer on him, and call him kafir beyond any doubt.
CONDITIONS OF IMAAN BILLAH
Conditions of believing in Allah (swt)
Conditions of believing in Allah (swt)
Imaan is conviction in the heart, testified by the tongue and practised willingly, it is not only in the heart, but rather Imaan is SAYINGS AND ACTIONS.
There are 3 conditions of Imaan Billah:
1- IMAAN BIL RUBUBIYYAH
To believe in the Lordship of Allah (swt) Exclusively
To believe in the Lordship of Allah (swt) Exclusively
That is to believe in all of his functions of being the lord of mankind exclusively, e.g. the creator.
Allah (swt) said:
"(Who is Allah?) Allah is the one created you, then he provided for you, then he made us die and gave us life again. Are any of those who are your partners do the same?" [Rum (30): 40]
"(Who is Allah?) Allah is the one created you, then he provided for you, then he made us die and gave us life again. Are any of those who are your partners do the same?" [Rum (30): 40]
2- IMAAN BIL ASMAA WAS SIFAAT
To believe in All of Allah's (swt) names and attributes Exclusively
To believe in All of Allah's (swt) names and attributes Exclusively
To believe exclusively in all of his names and attributes.
Allah (swt) said:
"There is nothing like Almighty Allah, …" [Shura (42): 11]
"There is nothing like Almighty Allah, …" [Shura (42): 11]
3- IMAAN BI ULUHIYYAH To Believe in his Sovereignty
To believe in Allah as the "ilah" exclusively: the one who says do and don't do,
Whatever Allah (swt) says to do, and to worship, and obey, I will do it.
Allah (swt) said:
"Submit to almighty Allah and don't associate with him…" [4: 36]
"Submit to almighty Allah and don't associate with him…" [4: 36]
Uluhiyyah is our relationship with Allah (swt) and our actions towards him. In our 'Ibadaat we have exclusivity to Allah (swt): You cannot make du'a and say "by …so and so's… help" or "with the blessing of …so and so…" we must only make du'a to Allah (swt) exclusively.
